A Haggadah for a Socially Responsible Chocolate Seder
Created by Deborah R. Prinz
A supplement to the book On the Chocolate Trail
We hope that you appreciate this opportunity to experience the ancient seder and Passover themes through contemporary issues of slavery, economic justice and fair trade, as discussed earlier in this book. This version of the haggadah shifts the creative, yet over-the-top chocolate-consumption of the popular chocolate seders to a use of chocolate for the Seder’s ritual foods to further meaningful conversation about values and challenges related to chocolate. You may wish to convene this Seder prior to Passover, both to prepare attendees to consider these ideas as they may apply to their home Seder and also to avoid any need to use Kosher for Passover chocolate. This text is built on A Growing Haggadah by Mark Samuel Hurvitz.
