Exotic Shabbat Breads–Not Your Bubbe’s Challah January 7th, 2020
Debbie will be teaching about exotic Shabbat challot at PARR, the annual meeting of rabbis on the West Coast as part of thechocolatebabkaproject. This workshop lifts our palates beyond the familiar Ashkenazi-centric challah to explore Jewish festive breads in Sephardi, African, and Mizrachi customs. These celebratory, yeasty treats reflect Jewish diversity as they showcase less familiar worldwide communities. Text study, recipes and samples of Shabbat breads from places such as Ethiopia, Iran, and Yemen not only offer tantalizing flavors and shapes, they also expand awareness of Jewish culinary styles and stories.
